I moved in 2 years ago and bought a fixer upper. Overall this has been a nice experience way more than buyer’s remorse. We have fantastic neighbors who watch out for us when we are not here. And we do the same for them. It is peaceful for the most part with a couple exceptions here and there, but it is still transforming. Being lava zone 3 buyers can get a mortgage, construction loan and insurance. This is the last of the lava zone 3 that is affordable. Living here we almost need heat in the winter months early mornings and in the summer we almost need A/C at the peak of the summertime days. The temps here are so moderate that neither is necessary. I also bought land down at about 500 ft elevation, we decided to live here in Eden roc. We have not seen any wild boars in our area for some reason? Maybe hunted farmland surrounds the development but for whatever reason we have not had one destructive boar in our yard or seen in the development by us. Mosquitoes are a lot less than down lower. We cleared most of our lot and have planted vegetation and we hardly have any mosquitoes. However up the road where it is not cleared. there are some, but it has been that easy to rid the yard of them. I out time and money into my lot with no regrets living here full time. You’ll notice there are a lot less lots and homes for sale here than down below. We also have less crime. Only one way in and out and thieves want a quick getaway. They don’t get that here and we watch for cars that don’t belong here taking plates in case anything goes wrong. it isn’t perfect but following local FB communities we have a lot less theft here than down below. Also the traffic going to Pahoa direction get’s clogged a lot more than coming up hwy 11 when going home. to Eden roc. It isn’t perfect but my wife is retired from a couple different police depts and we won’t put up with any nonsense should it show up near us.
I totally agree with you. It’s funny to see how many folks were saying all the bad stuff without actually living here. I understand there’s always reason for people’s behavior. We have those that wants to keep Eden Roc in the past, without attracting people in. I can understand their perspective, but I also know it’s probably past that point already, especially living in the Social Media world. And also because of COVID, people were and are looking for places outside of town, or far from Waikiki Beach and Honolulu.
