Building Gigi’s Garden: Honoring Family, Community, and Our Remathau Roots
True stability in life goes beyond personal security—it is about laying down deep roots that can sustain an entire community. When we invest in our people and create spaces where culture can thrive, we build a legacy that outlasts any single lifetime. That vision is the foundation of Gigi’s Garden.
A Living Tribute to My Sister
Honoring my sister is the best and most enduring tribute I can offer her. She carried a spirit of generosity, warmth, and dedication to family that deserves to be celebrated in a lasting way.
By dedicating this land in Hawaii to her memory, Gigi’s Garden becomes a physical anchor for our family and community. It is a living sanctuary where her memory lives on through the work of our hands, the growth of our crops, and the laughter of our children.
Gathering the Community: September 7, 2026
To mark her first anniversary on September 7, 2026, we will be opening the ranch to our Remathau Community of Hawaii.
We will gather to honor her memory, slaughter pigs for a traditional feast, and officially introduce Gigi’s Garden to everyone. This gathering is not only a time to remember and reflect, but also an opportunity to unite our community around a shared space built by and for our people.
What We Are Building Together
Living away from our home islands can make it challenging to pass down our daily rhythms, ancestral skills, and cultural knowledge. Gigi’s Garden is designed to bridge that distance, offering a dedicated homestead where the community can gather, work, and learn:
-
Community Gardening: Working the soil, growing food together, and reinforcing the values of self-reliance, shared labor, and land stewardship.
-
Traditional Weaving: Providing a dedicated shelter where knowledge keepers can teach the patience, artistry, and discipline of weaving mats, daily essentials, and traditional crafts.
-
Traditional House Building: Constructing ancestral structures with local timber and cordage, giving our youth practical, hands-on experience with our traditional engineering and building methods.
-
Teaching Remathau Lifeways: Creating an immersive environment where language, respect, community responsibility, and cultural wisdom are lived every day.
A Long-Lasting Legacy
A project like this cannot belong to just one person—it thrives when held by the whole community. Our hope is to work hand-in-hand with our Remathau family across Hawaii to turn Gigi’s Garden into a thriving, self-sustaining sanctuary that serves our people for generations to come.
Please join us on September 7 as we remember, break bread, and lay the groundwork for our community’s shared future.
