Our First Spring: Transforming the Front of Our New Home

Spring has finally arrived, and with it comes the excitement of shaping our new home into something that truly feels like ours. After the long winter of settling in, this season marks the beginning of real, hands-on work—turning the front of the house into a welcoming reflection of our style and effort.

A Blank Canvas

When the house was first purchased, the front yard was simple and bare—just grass, a few shrubs, and plenty of potential. It had good bones but lacked personality. This spring, the goal is to change that by adding color, texture, and structure through flower beds and pavers.

Building the Flower Beds

The first step was planning where the flower beds would go. After sketching out a few ideas, the decision was made to frame the walkway and front porch with curved beds that soften the lines of the house. The soil was turned, compost mixed in, and the planting began.

A mix of perennials and annuals was chosen to ensure color throughout the season—vibrant tulips and daffodils for early spring, followed by petunias, marigolds, and lavender for summer. The scent of fresh soil and the sight of new blooms instantly brought life to the space.

Adding Pavers for Structure

Next came the pavers. The goal was to create a clean, defined path leading from the driveway to the front door, adding both function and charm. Each stone was carefully placed, leveled, and adjusted until the walkway felt just right. The pavers not only improved the look but also made the entrance more inviting and practical.

The Hard Work Begins

While the transformation is exciting, it’s also a reminder that homeownership means constant care and effort. Every shovel of dirt, every stone laid, and every plant watered is part of building something lasting. The front yard is just the beginning—there’s still so much to do, but this first step feels like a milestone.

Looking Ahead

As the days grow warmer and the flowers begin to bloom, the house is starting to reflect the love and labor poured into it. This first spring marks the start of many seasons of growth, both for the garden and for the journey of making this house a true home.
